Abstract
In this study, the larval Chironomidae fauna in Thrace region were found out by evaluating the faunistic, systematic and taxonomic studies carried out on larval Chironomidae (Diptera) species in Thrace region. It was determined that the samples of larva taken from different still water and running water represent five subfamilies that belong to 69 genus and 155 chironomid species. Of which, 5 species, Endochironomus albipennis (Meigen, 1830), Glyptotendipes signatus (Kieffer, 1909), Microchironomus tener (Kieffer, 1918), Parachironomus vitiosus (Goetghebuer, 1921) and Halocladius millenarius (Santos Abreu, 1918) are recorded from Turkey for the first time. The distribution of the species according to the species and the subfamilies are as follows: 18 genus of Tanypodinae having 31 species, 1 genus of Prodiamesinae having 1 species, 2 genus of Diamesinae having 4 species, 22 genus of Orthocladinae having 55 species and 26 genus of Chironominae having 64 species.
