Abstract
An important part of the energy consumed in buildings is used as a heating energy in Turkey. Thermal insulation is the most important application to minimize the heating energy in buildings. In this study, the optimum insulation thickness was calculated based on the number of degree days by using life cycle cost analysis method for Edirne province using 6 different fuels (domestic and imported coal, natural gas,LPG, electricity, fuel oil), For outdoor wall expanded polystyrene (EPS), rock wool insulation and the EPS sandwich wall insulation materials. These calculations in five different wall models, optimum insulation thickness and annual reimbursement for fuel and energy savings have been identified for two different applications of insulation materials and fuel for each. Best result is obtained fort he case that, domestic, the optimum insulation thickness 0,028-0.039 m, repayment periods from 2.1 to 4.2 years, energy saving 24% - 47% have been obtained for domestic coal as a fuel and EPS is as a insulation material
