Abstract

In this study, the wind energy potential of Turkey and its applicability were investigated. A house type wind turbine with a 600 kW nominal power was designed by proper assumptions. For design turbine; cut-in wind speed, nominal speed, shut-down speed values and blade number were selected 4m/s, 12.5m/s, 22m/s and 3 respectively. The results of this study were compared with similar papers in literature. A good agreement was observed. Furthermore, it is concluded that the selection of wind conditions and area characteristics are important as much as turbine performance during a turbine design.
