Abstract

Turbeh, which is a kind of monumental tomb, has reached its most magnificent form, especially, during the age of Ottoman Empire. Turbehs, are the religious architectural forms, which should be protected since they reflect the socio-cultural impressions of the age, when they were built, besides being small-scaled buildings. Turbehs in Edirne, which had been the capital city of the Ottoman Empire approximately for a century, still keep a lot of civilian and religious architectural forms in their structure and play an important role in the architecture of turbehs. In this study, the status of Turbehs in Edirne within the Ottoman Architecture is determined by detecting the planning schemes and architectural features of the Turbehs, which are still standing in Edirne. The aim of this study is to transmit the values to the future generations by collecting data for the prospective studies about the turbehs, which are among the cultural heritages that are about to disappear in Edirne.
