ABSTRACT

Due to excessive contamination of the environment the environmentally friendly catalysts have gained importance. Montmorillonite that is abundant and cheap is an important candidate as catalyst. It can be used as catalyst and catalyst support because of their swelling and ion exchanging properties. The various modified methods like pillaring and ion exchanging increases its catalytic characteristics. Montmorillonite clay is one of the widely studied solid acid catalysts for many organic reactions.
